A Salinas man accused of killing his mother about one year ago apparently tried to kill himself Sunday at Monterey County Jail.
About noon, deputies released Christopher released from his one-person lockdown cell for his hourly, daily exercise period.
About five minutes later, Sorensen jumped off C Pod’s upper tier, apparently attempting suicide.
Sorensen landed on the concrete floor 20 feet below.
Deputies and medical workers performed first aid and then flew Sorensen by helicopter to a Bay Area hospital.
He is expected to fully recover, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sorenson is charged with killing his mother, Janet Sorensen, 71, in December of 2011.
